The North Carolina Secretary of State has issued a Scam Warning!
There have been a recent flurry of misleading emails going around from a company called North Carolina Certified Document Services that states your business Annual Report is due and claims you are receiving this correspondence because you have done business with them in the past. They offer to file your company’s Annual Report for an fee of $499.89 (see copy at end of this article).
Chances are, you’ve never hired them and have never does business with them. Unfortunately, this marketing tactic is not technically illegal, but it is misleading and deceitful… and in this case, extremely over-priced!
It’s important to note that NC Certified Document Services is not offering any additional services for the fee they are charging to file your report. The stated fee is to file a single Annual Report.
The Walls Law Group offers to file Annual Reports and serve as the Registered Agent for the course of the year for many of our business clients. When we serve as Registered Agent for a business, we charge a nominal and reasonable Registered Agent Service fee to act as the business’s agent for the year we are engaged for that service.
In contrast, North Carolina Certified Document Services does not perform any Registered Agent services for its $500 filing fee.
